Monkey Style Kung Fu
A northern Chinese style, monkey kung fu is one of the most comical appearing of all kung fu styles, yet it remains one of the most deadly. It all started when a Ching dynasty conscription officer went to draft Kau See, a kung fu expert, into the army. When Kau See refused the officer tried to take him forcibly to the Manchu military headquarters. Kau See resisted the arrest and mistakably killed the officer. Kau See was then put behind bars for 8 years.
Kau See wanted to escape from the prison, but he learned that others had tried and failed not because they were stopped by the prison guards, but by the monkeys that inhabited the forest surrounding the prison. From his cell window Kau See could see the monkeys in the forest. Since there was nothing much else to do in the prison, Kau See dedicated all his time to watching, learning and imitating the hunting and survival movements of this little animal. Kau See concentrated on their fighting techniques by picking out the group's superior monkey and repeated every move he made during conflicts with other monkeys or predators.
Kau See discovered that each monkey had it's own characteristics when it fought. He discovered that monkey fighting placed emphasis on smooth, quick, unpredictable and clever ground rolling and sudden attacks. Kau See decided to combine his kung Fu with what he had learned from the monkeys and call his style Monkey Kung Fu. Kau See was then called the "Monkey Master". Kau See categorized Monkey Kung Fu into five major styles: drunken, lost, stone, wooden and tall or standing monkey.
